Counselling Supervision

In 2021 I completed a Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision. I provide supervision support and guidance within a warm relationship that encourages self-review. We’ll work together so that you feel confident in providing the support that your clients need. We'll take into account not only their well-being, but yours too.

My Supervision Approach

Through the course of my studies, I adopted the CLEAR model, but as with therapeutic approaches, I believe in maintaining an understanding of a broad variety of concepts through reading about and considering different models and ways of thinking. Together we will manage legal and ethical boundaries while monitoring your progress.

We will develop an awareness of the supervision process, and ensure that it meets your needs.

Please contact me so we can have a conversation about what support you’d like with your counselling work.

How long are appointments?

I offer 45-minute supervision sessions, twice monthly, in line with the BACP recommendations that therapists spend 90 minutes each month on supervision.

How much does it cost?

A 45-minute session of supervision costs £45.

Working With Men

Do you have problems expressing yourself emotionally?

Do you find it difficult to unwind?

Do you sometimes struggle to feel a sense of connection to the world around you?

Whether you were born male, or identify as male, you are welcome.

Why is your mental health important?

In my experience men often have to work hard in order to express themselves in open and healthy ways. Too often men feel unable to do so, and this can result in relationship problems, substance misuse and poor mental health.

Standard male role models in our culture are strong, confident, and in control. Feeling as though you don’t match up to these standards can make you ask difficult and painful questions about yourself.

According to the Mental Health Foundation (MHF), in England, around one in eight men has a common mental health problem such as depression, anxiety, panic disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The MHF also state that:

  • Men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women: only 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men.
  • Men report lower levels of life satisfaction than women according to the Government’s national wellbeing survey
  • Three times as many men as women die by suicide

My experience of working with men

I have a broad range of experience working with men. I have worked with men in prisons, police stations, universities and in private practice as a therapist. I have been able to develop my skills and support men in many different areas of life, including the following:

Increasing confidence and self-esteem

Decreasing work stress and burnout

Decreasing the stress in changing jobs

Improving communication in romantic and family relationships

Discovering and exploring sexuality

Navigating relationship models

Parenting

Drug and alcohol use

Living with being on the Autistic Spectrum

What can we work on together?

Everybody has different aims when it comes to therapy. Together we will build a therapy relationship so you can find your answers to your questions.

I have used my counselling skills to work with men on the following:

Dealing better with the stress that life throws at you

Discovering new ways of looking at your experiences

Feeling less overwhelmed generally

Recognising when you are sabotaging yourself and your relationships

Learning how to communicate how you feel with other people and what you need from them

Getting back to being able to enjoy life

Understanding yourself more clearly, the choices you make, the way you behave in certain situations

Feeling heard and seen as a whole person

Honestly evaluating your relationship with drugs and alcohol

LGBTQ+

I consider myself to be an ally of the LGBTQ+ community with significant experience of working with lesbian, gay and trans clients. I am ready to support you with whatever you’d like to bring to sessions
