Guy Butterworth Counselling

Looking for somebody who will listen?

My name is Guy Butterworth and I am a counsellor providing both short and long-term therapy to adults in east London, covering Tower Hamlets, Canary Wharf, Hackney and Stratford.

Are you confused about your emotions?

Do you know why you don’t feel good enough sometimes, even though you are doing your best?

Are you struggling with what you think might be depression or anxiety?

Do you find that you are feeling overwhelmed or even stuck?

Are you struggling with sleep or insomnia?

What is counselling?

We build a trusting relationship so you can explore what brings you to see a counsellor.

You will feel listened to as you come to understand yourself and your challenges better. You will have somebody to support you, giving you the chance to develop in the way that you want to.

With over 15 years of experience, I’ve worked with clients on various areas of their lives, including the following:

  • Improving communication
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Work stress - work/life balance
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationships - both family and partner
  • Sexuality

The aims of therapy will vary for each client, but general aims will include:

  • Feeling less stressed
  • Feeling more focused on living a life that seems clearer to understand
  • Developing awareness of your patterns of behaviour, leading to better decision-making
  • Increasing self-understanding
  • Improving understanding of your depression, anxiety or whatever it is that’s bothering you
  • Knowing of what it is like to feel supported and listened to
  • Seeing how it feels when someone is working hard to understand you
  • Experiencing the benefits of a consistent relationship

How long does counselling take?

There is no true answer to this question.

The counselling relationship needs trust. How long does it usually take before you trust another person with your thoughts and feelings? I am an experienced therapist with a range of listening skills, so if you are ready to be open and honest with yourself, then together we’ll move towards resolving your issues.

I work with clients on an open-ended basis, for as long as they want to. We can also focus on something specific for a fixed length of time. We will look to meet every week for three to six months at first. As the therapeutic relationship develops, you’ll delve into difficult emotions and thoughts, and begin to make sense of them.

Ongoing support for self-care for lower level needs will see us meet every other week for as long as you find the work to be useful.

How do I get started?

Send me a message so we can arrange a free consultation phone call. This usually lasts about 10 minutes. The consultation gives you a chance to explain what you want from counselling. It also gives you the chance to ask me any questions you might have.

Once we’ve decided we’re a good fit, we can either meet at my therapy space in east London. We could also meet online or talk on the phone.
